MR MUYIWA DAPO OLUGBODI, IS THE MANAGING DIRECTOR OF ARROWSHOT CARE SOLUTIONS, A CARE PROVIDER COMPANY. OLUGBODI BARES HIS MIND ON THE EVOLUTION OF THE CARE INDUSTRY AND THE GLOBAL STANDARDS HIS COMPANY, ARROWSHOT CARE SOLUTIONS IS BRINGING ON BOARD. BELOW ARE EXCERPTS:
What is the idea behind Care services?
The idea is mainly to look at the care sector of the economy and contribute meaningfully to raising the standard in Nigeria. We have so many people looking for care for their parents desperately.
It is not only Nurses that are involved. Care service is a professional service aimed at providing adequate care for the elderly.
It is professional in nature because care service providers should be trained.
There have been several cases of abuse of the aged and elderly by some untrained workers.
What is the role of Arrowshot Solutions in addressing abuse of the service?
An Arrowshot care solution is poised to raise the standard by providing holistic training for care providers. It should be emphasized that the training is in line with global requirements.
The training for our staff is provided by a UK-based care company. There are 15 fundamental standards of care that should be adhered to in providing the service.
Another major area of focus is background checks and we conduct checks and embark on screening before we employ people.
We are highly focused on providing home care for people in order to give them the peace of mind they need in their old age.
We have started deploying workers across the country. We have a very solid coverage of Lagos, western states and Abuja. We are doing all we can to eliminate the harrowing experiences of the elderly in the hands of criminally minded caregivers.
We also have a strong coordinating network and we have the authority to dismiss any erring caregiver. We are providing solid training for our caregivers bringing the UK standard to Nigeria.
What can you say about the need to legislate the Care Industry?
We are prepared to work with the Nigerian government on providing adequate legislation for the care industry in Nigeria.
Legislation is required to ensure adherence to standards as well as regulate the conduct of care providers. There is the Care Quality Commission (CQC) IN UK which is empowered to monitor the care sector.
There is the Care ACT which regulates how to provide care for people. The basis of it is to give individuals independence. The care industry is regulated to a large extent.
We will be working with the Nigerian government to bring about legislation. There should be standards and legislation for the care industry in Nigeria.
